This Wednesday, July 20, LHI and Riverside Center will host a community-wide food drive to benefit WAFER Food Pantry of La Crosse. Drop off your monetary donations or non-perishable food items between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Riverside Center, on Front Street in La Crosse.
During the summer, donations to Wafer Food Pantry dwindle, while at the same time, demand increases. Children from needy families don’t have access to school lunches this time of year, while people continue to search for work in a down economy. WAFER is filling the gap, but to continue doing their good work, they need our help. This year, WAFER is helping a record number of people; close to 4,000 families will visit the pantry in 2011, and WAFER will help them with about 18,000 food packages. In May alone, WAFER helped nearly 5,000 people.
If ½ the households in the area donated three cans of soup, WAFER would have enough soup to help the hungry for 12 months. With your assistance, we can help the thousands of people in our region who need it most.
