TARU Medical Surveillance Program

Since October 1, 2004 LHI has managed the TARU Medical Surveillance Program for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As part of this program, LHI provides health examinations for the TARU team members to ensure they are medically ready to be deployed in the case of a national emergency. National emergencies are classified as large scale events such as a natural disaster, technical disaster, or biological, chemical or radiological bioterrorism events. These services will ensure the TARU members are physically and psychologically capable of working under extreme conditions and able to complete missions that may last for several days, weeks or possibly months at a time with potential exposure to infectious disease or chemical agents.

LHI’s management of the TARU Medical Surveillance Program includes working with healthcare providers in our national provider network to collect detailed medical history information, entrance exams, annual exams, exit physical examinations, diagnostic tests, laboratory tests, immunizations, respiratory fit testing, and hearing conservation. Medical histories are imperative in order to medically clear these individuals as part of the TARU Medical Surveillance Team.
